You know you’re going to have a disappointing season when…

Pitcher Brad Bergesen of the Baltimore Orioles injured his shoulder while filming a promotional spot for the team.

He missed the end of last season after being hit in the shin on a line drive at the end of July, so he hasn’t been throwing at full speed in quite a while. Bergeson hurt himself by throwing too hard too soon and needed to work himself up to it.

Andy MacPhail, the club president of baseball operations, said, “he’s behind the rest of the pitchers at this point, but it’s nothing we think is going to delay his regular season.”

Sounds to me like he’s embarrassed that it happened while filming for the team and wants to save face. Can you imagine how he’d be screaming if it happened while filming paid endorsements not associated with the club?

Last year in his rookie season Bergeson went 7-5 with a 3.43 ERA. The Baltimore Orioles don’t have much of a chance this year, they are +10000 in World Series odds, but the team is counting on Bergeson to improve and become a quality long-term pitcher.
