The Washington Nationals look like they are going to get free agent pitcher Chien-Ming Wang.

Wang continues to rehab his shoulder and likely won’t be ready until the season starts.

Wang is coming off of yet another injury-plagued season going 1-6 with a 9.64 ERA for the Yankees, but he has also had some very productive seasons.

In 2006, he got in to 34 games and had an ERA of 3.63, while in 30 games in 2007 he had a 3.70 ERA.

With all of the improvements to the Nationals infield, a finesse pitcher like Wang could have a lot of success.

There was significant interest in the off-season from a number of teams, but they’ve all gone elsewhere to fill their pitching needs or decided Wang was too much of a risk.

Presuming Wang signs with the Nationals, this is yet another low-risk medium-reward move for the Nationals.

They may not have an ace on the mound or a star slugger, but they have a lot of depth and they’ll be dangerous this year. Finally.
